Who’s scared of advanced GeoServer workshops?

GeoServer

Apparently, the FOSS4G Europe attendees are not scared of advanced GeoServer workshops.

Tuesday 15th of July, GeoSolutions gave a workshop called “GeoServer on steroids: getting the best out of GeoServer” at FOSS4G Europe, in Como (Italy). We managed to attract more than 60 attendees, so much that it had to be run by two separate teachers, our tech leads Andrea Aime and Mauro Bartolomeoli, in two different computer labs.

In our view, this is a sign of maturity of the FOSS4G conferences, which over the years collected a number of returning attendees, people that went past the basics and crave for some more advanced training. This is of course not a plea to only target the skilled users, but more an observation that they are there, and are interested, so there is indeed also space for more advanced training material at a FOSS4G conference.

So what if you are interested in the topic, but you could not make it to the conference here in beautiful Como? Or, what if you participated, and want the slides and training material to re-check in the quiet of your office after the conference? No worries, all the material used in the training is available for download and use, just follow these links:

  • The zip file with data and applications needed to run the workshop (requires a Windows 32 or 64 bit machine)
  • The slides used during the training as introductions to the various topics, as published on SlideShare
  • The training material with the hands on exercises linked from the slides (and a lot more, 4 days worth of training material, starting from the basics and going all the way up to the more advanced topics)

We hope you enjoyed the workshop as we did, and stay tuned for more GeoServer related news on this blog! You might also want to subscribe to our newsletter to be more proactive!
